Participation in World Health Day Event Organized by the Palestinian Ministry of Health

Kuwait Specialty Hospital participated in the scientific day organized by the Palestinian Ministry of Health on the occasion of World Health Day, in partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Islamic University, the Water Authority and Environmental Quality Authority, and the World Health Organization. The event was held under the title: “Together for Health Support Science Support Gaza.”

Dr. Jamal Al-Hams, Medical Director of Kuwait Specialty Hospital, stated that this participation underscores the importance of such scientific gatherings in highlighting the magnitude of challenges and severe damage caused by the war on the Gaza Strip, and the resulting sharp deterioration in health-care services, infrastructure, and the education sector.

Dr. Al-Hams added that the hospital presented a documented contribution through a display board illustrating the significant impact of the Israeli aggression on the hospital in Rafah Governorate. The facility was subjected to repeated targeting, leading to the martyrdom of several staff members and injuries to others, ultimately resulting in its complete destruction, including medical equipment, devices, and operating rooms, during the ground invasion of the governorate.

He emphasized that what the hospital endured reflects the scale of direct targeting of the healthcare system in Gaza, and the consequent loss of essential medical facilities that once served thousands of citizens.

He further explained that following the forced displacement to Khan Younis Governorate, a field hospital was urgently established under the name “Kuwait Specialized Field Hospital – Shifa Palestine”, to continue providing services to residents of Rafah and Khan Younis, particularly displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area, which is experiencing high population density due to displacement.

In conclusion, Dr. Al-Hams stressed the urgent need to intensify support for the healthcare sector in Gaza, enhance cooperation between local and international institutions, ensure the immediate and continuous opening of crossings, facilitate the entry of necessary medical equipment and supplies, enable patients to travel abroad for treatment, and support water and sanitation projects to reduce pollution, thereby positively impacting public health.
